Kyle Allen's Laboratory

Absalom G. Scales (October 14, 1821 - December 11, 1887) was born in Williamson County, Tennessee. He inherited some land and a slave from his father, Joseph. In 1845 he married his first wive Martha E. Lavender (1821 - 1863) and in 1865 married his second wife Eliza Westerfelt. From his two marriages, he had thirteen children.

He also had four mulatto children by his house servant, Louise (1840 - 1877)

Louise Scales (1840 - 1877) was sold to Absalom as a teenager. She was responsible for taking care of the house and Abslom’s children. In 1855, her son robert was born (Absalom was the father). Louise married another slave named Jerry and they had four children:
